This variety of thistle is at risk in Canada. The majority of the plants are found in the Mingan Archipelago. It has been monitored as part of the rare plant inventory since 1995 and is only found on 4 of the islands. A recovery program was implemented after seeing a 70% decrease in number of individuals. Since the species is at Risk and mostly found in our study area, it was considered a focal species in coastal habitats.

This type of Lady's Slipper is only found in two places in Quebec, James bay and the Mingan Archipelago, and is considered threatened in the province. This makes it a focal species for the tundra habitats in the park. Colonies found in this habitat are more susceptible to decline due to the harsher climatic conditions.
